Hi Dave, Thanks for the advice - your suggestion did fix the problem. The BIOS on the Toshiba 480CDT has three possible setting for "PC Card Controller Mode": * PCIC Compatible * CardBus/16-bit * Auto-Selected I had it set to Auto-Selected. This gave the Linux problem described. Thanks again. Regards...Paul
