For now, I think you just need to live with it. The problem is due to two limitations of the kernel IDE driver... first, it can't always tell that a new device is a Smartmedia card, and second, when it then mistakenly tries to probe for a "slave" device, this probe spins in the kernel for a very long time. I've told the IDE maintainer about the problem. -- Dave
