If it is a particularly old laptop (five years or older, probably 486 based), you might have a Databook TCIC bridge, in which case, you could try loading the "tcic.o" module instead of "i82365.o". Another possibility would be that you've got a Cirrus PD6722 bridge, which can be powered down at boot time: in this case, you would need to use a startup option of PCIC_OPTS="wakeup=1" as discussed in the PCMCIA-HOWTO. A third possibility: some systems have a BIOS setup option to disable PCMCIA. And a fourth possibility is that you're using a desktop system with a PCMCIA adapter on a Plug and Play card, and need to use the isapnp tools to activate it before loading the PCMCIA drivers. -- Dave
