The original poster described a workaround. I have not been able to reproduce the problem. However, if "setserial /dev/modem irq 0" fails, then you do not have the same problem he reported. You should hear two beeps when you insert the card, not one. Can you be more specific about how the modem fails? Do you get any error messages? PPP is not a good choice for testing because you might have a PPP configuration problem; can you test with something simpler like minicom? Does the network work? And system log messages might be helpful. -- Dave
