Question: Problems setting ESSID on airo_cs

ibm tp600, debian woody, 2.2.16, pcmcia-cs 3.1.17 (i know i know should get the latest). when i run 'iwconfig eth0' it tells me 'wireless extensions not supported'. If i do a 'iwconfig eth0 essid "FOO"' i get something like 'SIOCSESSID: option not supported'. anyone know anything about this? is this an airo_cs problem, or am i not setting things up right?
