hey there. I'm having a little trouble getting the WaveLan (or Orinico or whatever) wireless PCMCIA card working on my Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop. I wonder if anyone can help. I think the problem is that the computer for some reason thinks that the card is my ethernet card, so it trys to access the ethernet card's MAC address. Everytime it does this (which is whenever I pop the wavelan card in), the computer freezes up completely. Here's what happens if i do a tail -f /var/log/messages right before I pop the card in: (i'm copying this down by hand so any typos are my fault, not a big bug). cardmgr[471]: initializing socket 1 cardmgr[471]: socket 1: Lucent Technologies WaveLAN/IEEE cardmgr[471]: executing: 'insmod /lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0/pcmcia/wavelan_cs.o' cardmgr[471]: eth0: wv_hw_config(): modem not connected or not a wavelan card cardmgr[471]: executing: './network start eth0' kernel: wv_82593_cmd: wv_82593_config(): configure timeout, status0 0x00 kernel: eth0: wavelan_watchdog: wathdog timer expired kernel: eth0: wavelan_watchdog: abort failed, trying reset kernel: eth0: wv_mmc_init(): Invalid MAC address: FF:FF:FF:... and now it's frozen thanks a lot for any help you can give me. |
