Question: Apple Airport cards in a PC

I would like to use the Apple Airport cards in an intel PC or laptop. In Jean_Tourrilhes excellent wireless writeup, it says the cabletron Wavelan cards are the same as the Airport, but

Having looked at the apple card, it certainly LOOKS like a standard PCMCIA card piggy-backed onto some MAC carrier. It doesn't make sense to me that it would be different.

Has anyone actually tried the apple card in a laptop?

The Apple cards are significantly cheaper, and when you are buying a lot of them, the cost is very significant.
