Question: Changing mode of Lucent WaveLAN/IEEE card?

Forum: PCMCIA Wireless Network Adapter Issues

I noticed that iwconfig has the ability to change a wireless card's mode, with valid options (apparently) being Auto, Ad-hoc, Managed, Master, Repeater, and Secondary. However, with my WaveLAN/IEEE card, pcmcia utils 3.1.14, and wireless extensions 20, I get an 'SIOCSIWMODE: Invalid argument' whenever I try to use any of these modes, other than ad-hoc or managed.

Any ideas as to why?
