Question ELAN PCI/PCMCIA Adapter and Samsung Wireless Card

Forum: PCMCIA Wireless Network Adapter Issues

From: Gary Spivey DrTerp

I have been trying for quite a long time (and with frequent e-mails to the linux-wlan group) to get my system up and running in linux. I have a Samsung wireless card (MagicWave SWL-1000). Supplied with this card is a PCI/PCMCIA adapter (also from Samsung). After much travail I was led to believe that the adapter would not support the interrupt mechanisms require. I was also told that there was a card from a company called ELAN (the P111) that does work with the latest pcmcia packages. So, I ordered the card, but alas,it is worse.

Got it installed, (took a little bit to get it working under windows - had to rearrange my cards in my PCI slots). But, it doesn't work at all in Linux. It thinks the card is a memory card. The pcmcia package doesn't respond to the different probes. I tried the probe utility in the pcmcia package directly, but nada. Nothing found. To me, this appears to be a bad sign. I thought it might be something in the setup until I plugged in the Samsung card and it got as close as it had been in the past. Card detected, everything works, except that it doesn't handle the interrupts properly (and I have the irq_mode=1 set in the /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia). By saying everything works, what I mean is that I get both high beeps, all of the modules are loaded, I just never see the interrupts increment and the ethernet doesn't function.

Any Ideas? I attached the messages file for both adapters pcmcia sections ...

Cheers, Gary spivey@ieee.org
