Hello there, I have two Wavelan IEEE silver cards. One is on my PC with the ISA-to-PCMCIA adapter. The other is on an older laptop (pentium 100). I'm using ad-hoc mode. I have two problems. One has to do with the wavelan2_cs driver from lucent. It misreports the link quality stats. I can bring up interfaces, ping the other computer, etc. But those link quality stats is what I'm after. Doing a 'cat /proc/net/wireless' gives me the following:
Inter-|sta| Quality | Discarded packets face |tus|link level noise| nwid crypt misc eth1 00 0. 154. 154. 0 0 0
(or eth0 in the case of the laptop).
The second problem has to do with the wvlan_cs driver, I can install the module, but can't bring up any interface using ifconfig. Neither 'eth1' (or eth0) nor 'wvlan0' are recognized. I keep getting the following message (when I specify a IP address):
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device eth1: unknown interface: No such device
(or wvlan0 in place of eth1)
OTOH, when I just try to bring the interface up without specifying the IP address, I get:
eth1: unknown interface: No such device
actually, any action with the iwconfig program comes back with a SIOCSXXXXXX: No such device
I'm using kernel 2.2.13, pcmcia-cs 3.1.15, wireless extensions 19, and the slackware 7.0 distribution. The lucent driver I'm using is 6.00 (with HCF 4.6). Firmware on cards is 4.52. Any help would be greatly appreciated...
