The problem is solved due to Dave's hints.
If I include the line 
include memory 0xa0000000-0xa0ffffff, memory 0x60000000-0x60ffffff
in my config.opts the Xircom card is recognized correctly.

I am afraid that my token ring adapter won't work but I will
see this next week, when I have a token ring available.
