Can you show me the messages you got back before you started fiddling with any of the config files? I am now mostly curious about your original problem (which you say existed with both the CBEM and a 3CCFE574BT card). It is not an issue with filesystem damage. Do not waste your time reinstalling linux. You cannot get back to a console prompt after initiating a shutdown. If you get a lockup there, you are pretty much out of luck. You can try doing alt-sysrq-s and alt-sysrq-u to sync and unmount your filesystems; these may work even if the system seems dead. -- Dave |
