You say you don't hear beeps when you insert the card.

The reason for that might be that PCMCIA services are turned off in
your /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia file.  I can't really guess; there is a
section in the PCMCIA-HOWTO about Red Hat and Mandrake that has a few
tips like checking this file.  You could also check your system log.

The new drivers generally work significantly better than older ones.
