Machine Lockup with high network traffic

Forum: Xircom PCMCIA Ethernet Adapter Issues

I am having problems with my laptop locking up with very high network traffic.

The version of pcmcia drivers seems to make quite a difference to the timing of the problem.

ie: the latest (NEW) pcmcia 3.1.5 drivers lock the machine solid very quickly however 3.1.4 seems to hold out for about 10 minutes.

The laptop ONLY locks up when tring to run a vmware session and there is very high network traffic. Without vmware running the laptop is stable with only the syslog recording lots of dropped packets.

I feel it is a race condition within vmware/kernel/pcmcia however I get no oops, there is nothing in the log files, just a total lockup. - caps-lock doesn't work, can not ping the machine etc. The power button (the "Oh shit" button) is the only solution.

Any sugestions on how to track this one down ?

ps: I am now going to log this with vmware as a problem.

Best regards Mark Harvey
