The reason I put those calls in start_fn was because I had seen it
suggested in the HOWTO, but everything was working fine with 3.1.0 and
3.1.1 just using the scripts that came with the pcmcia package. I
thought the notes in the HOWTO meant that you could use Redhat with the
workaround if you wanted to. I was keeping all my network configuration
information in network.opts instead of fooling with the Redhat stuff
because I've got some AFS client software that I liked to start and stop
in start(stop)_fn. I pulled that out for now because I didn't want to
complicate things.

I meant to say insert here. I don't appear to be having any problems
using cardctl insert and eject with the the current package which is why
I thought I could just use them with apm instead of shutting down the
whole pcmcia package with pcmcia stop. Should I avoid using eject and
insert as well as suspend/resume? Are eject and insert actually doing
suspend and resume?
