I find that I must kill dhcpcd and shut down card services if I want to suspend and use the card after wake-up (by restarting card services). I've experienced this ever since I got the Xircom (with RH6.0 and pcmcia 3.0x and now with RH6.1 and pcmcia 3.1.8).
The modem does not seem affected by the sleep/wake-up, but ethernet starts to generate errors and card services is then unable to unload/reload forcing a reboot. results of `cat /proc/bus/pccard/*` (before sleep):
