Question: Is RBEM56G 10/100 Ethernet + Modem 56 supported?

Forum: Xircom PCMCIA Ethernet Adapter Issues
Date: 2000, Jan 26
From: Stefan Kluth Stefan

I have:

Laptop Dell Inspiron 3700 450 GT

Xircom RealPort CardBus Ethernet 10/100 * Modem 56, which
identifies itself as
vers_1 5.0, "Xircom", "CardBus Ethernet 10/100 + Modem 56",
"CBEM56G", "1.03"
with dump_cis

Debian frozen potato, stock kernel 2.2.13, pcmcia-cs 3.1.8-4

In short, I did not get the ethernet part of the Xircom card
to work, even though the module "tulip_cb" got loaded ok and
no other obvious messages appeared. If this card is supposed
to work with the software I have I can of course provide more
info.

I succeeded by getting "tulip.c" from
http://ivs.cs.uni-magdeburg.de/~danilo/linux.shtml (follow the
link "driver" in section IBM EtherJet PC Card Driver),
replacing clients/tulip_cb.c by the new code and
compiling/installing pcmcia-cs. I also pass the two options
"cis_hwaddr=0x170 strict_csr6=1" via /etc/pcmcia/config.ops to
the tulip_cb module. Note that these options are not available
in the standard tulip_cb.c

After reading the relevant postings here I fear that I am
doing something silly and that the card should work.

I will be grateful for any hints/help. Stefan
