The 09-Feb-00 beta was a non-starter, but the 10-Feb-00 beta works! cardctl eject beeps twice (not sure if this is normal, but it turned off the ethernet :), and reinserting the card brings everything back again. Multitudinous thanks to Dave, both for maintaining pcmcia-cs and (of course) for fixing the bug.
