I read the note on RH in the howto... "your driver" was installed "last" so the hook between linuxconfig and the normal linux stuff is broken... which is fine with me...

nothing abnormal in the boot log... just a couple of complaints about not being yp_bind'd... no surpize there since it cant find the nis server at this point.

ifconfig says

which seems fine to me.

ping says

[root@lysbd-laptop log]# ping 137.244.203.6 PING 137.244.203.6 (137.244.203.6) from 137.244.203.219 : 56(84) bytes of data. From lysbd-laptop.sofcsi.robins.af.mil (137.244.203.219): Destination Host Unreachable From lysbd-laptop.sofcsi.robins.af.mil (137.244.203.219):

I did a route but did not get its o/put captured (i am having to write this in win95)... but it listed 137.244.203.0 which I am not sure is correct. when I run netconfig() I give it 137.244.203.3 as a "gateway"... but since my ip 219 box is on the same side of the gateway as is the ip 6 box, this shouldnt matter... should it?

What happens if you do:

  ifdown eth0
  ifup eth0

Does the network start working then?  You also didn't actually say
what card you're using.  I've heard of some weird problems like this
with the Xircom CardBus cards but they are generally so troublesome
that it is hard to make any sense out of the bug reports.

its a xircom rbgm56g... you helped me get this working a couple of weeks ago. I really expect this problem to be in the class of "dumb user doesnt now know what he's doing".

sorry, I forgot to run the ifdown/up the first time you ask.. first here is the result of a route()

Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 137.244.203.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 127.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo

strangly enough when I did the ifdown eth0/ifup eth0 the route command showed a NEW entry: Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 137.244.203.219 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 eth0 137.244.203.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 127.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo YPBINDPROC_DOMAIN: Domain not bound

and now my pings resolve fine... the new line seems rather silly to me... as 137.244.203.219 is the ip of MY laptop...

Or is this just one of thoes things I am supposed to know about?
