The problem described above also happens on a Xircom CBE 10/100 Ethernet +modem. I am using a stock Redhat 6.2 installed on a gateway 9300.
The modem works for small transfers and normal ppp connections, but stalls on large transfers. While trying to load the helix gnome packages I found that I can download files up to 1 meg reliably, but large files of 2-3 meg stall after doing 63-66K download. Its very odd! the modem seems to realize that I started a big file and has given up.
